Easier said than… but let’s do it anyway

How I used to learn when I was much younger was experimentation. In particular it refers to how I learnt how to program. In the very beginning it was to type stuff from a manual, listings I found in computer magazines, then change it and see what happens. Recycling, repurpose. No huge expectations.

With years come by, we usually become more demanding to ourselves. We expect to understand everything quickly, we want to achieve “big things” day 1. Rush, progress, ROI.

And I certainly fall into that trap.

Sure, there is a huge difference in how life looks and feels like when you are a teenager and forty-something. But it doesn’t really matter. It does not matter as for the effectiveness of the learning and re-learning process. It just does not care. You don’t have enough time? You would need more smaller chunks then. Struggling with a font rendering routine for Amstrad CPC? Enjoy and play with the pixels more.

Small bucket of dedication. And a shovel of perseverance. Shaken, not stirred.
