Today I tried to develop a ‘create’ view for the most important (thus the biggest one) class in my application. I cannot say I succeeded.
The complexity of CSS stuff is killing me. I never was a front end developer (hmm… except Borland C++, Java’s Swing and… Python’s curses :)) and I don’t feel like I know how to overcome the growing fatigue… Hopefully I’ve found YUI and its Grids CSS, so maybe not everything is lost.
I am not saying the task is easy now, but I see a light at the end of the tunnel. Not much but I believe the direction is correct at least. The grids builder gives a chance to create a bare grid and understand the concept by experimenting at the same time.
I don’t expect any miracles. Just something that allows me to lay the things out. Maybe tomorrow.
I find myself trudging through the complexities of Grails, however the real business remains almost untouched. This is more than demotivating by the end of the day.
This is one of the problems I’m struggling with: who’s the real driver here? Is it the problem I’ve been trying to code or the technology I decided to use?
The issue is nothing new to me actually, however it hits right between the eyes. I need some real achievements desperately! I need them now. Not the demons from my past.
I’ve been developing a small application in Grails. Sounds like a two-clicks task, doesn’t it?
The recipe looks easy. Trivial to be honest. Just come up with domain classes, design and code them. Stir a little. Don’t bring to the boil. Run some generate-all magic, and voila…
Nah. It doesn’t look tasty. It doesn’t look edible. Oh, yeah. Look at the very bottom. The notices in Courier New 4px. What? “Don’t forget to add some HTML and CSS sauce.”…
There will be no dinner today.
Pretty standard corporation rat, or rather a mouse. Dragging chain of not-so-perfect choices, coincidences, so called business decisions.
Feel like a cast-away on the ocean… Years of coding and programming faded into the mist of time. Feeling detached and bad now. Feeling lame actually.
But it’s time for a change. Time to refresh memory and learn new things. To be a hero again :) A code hero. Hell yeah!
